Walter joined us in the summer of 1984, about a year after we got married and around the time we moved into our apartment in Shirlington Village, Virginia. Bert was already with us, and no doubt tried but failed to teach Walt his bad habits (Bert pissed away our security deposit and then some). Walt was a more welcome addition to the family.

In 1985 we moved to Fairlington Village in Arlington. Life went on for Walt and Bert.

In July 1987, Hugo joined the family. Walt was uncertain about this development, but they eventually became buddies.

Christmas 1988 and spring, 1989. Walt seemed to grow progressively more intimidated by Hugo and maybe us. We can’t imagine why.

Walt moved with us to Columbia, MD, and our house at Davidge Drive.

Fall 1991.

Winter 1992, Walt was mainly a bed kitty when it came to actual physical contact.

Wishing for a fire.

Maybe we paid a little too much attention to our cats.

In 1993, we lost Hugo and Walt became acquainted with our new kitten, Maxie.

By spring of 1994, Walt was going on 10 years old and did her best to hang in there with Maxie.

Maxie did her best to bring out the kitten in Walt.

In 1995, Walt faced the addition of still more people to the family.

Walt welcomed Allie, sort of.

Somehow, once Allie arrived, we took a lot fewer photos of cats. By the spring of 1997 we had moved to our house at Paddington Court. Walt tried to make herself at home.

At some point in 1999 we had to make a final decision about Walt who had become our incredible shrinking kitty. She was by far our longest-lived cat, at 15, but had been losing weight and getting progressively sicker for a number of months. The staff at Lewis Vet sent a nice note afterward.
