Treasure Cay, Bahamas, May 1985

We were able to take a short Spring Break in May of 1985. We “won” a 3-day preview of time share resort in the Bahamas and combined it with a visit to Bill’s folks in Singer Island. The resort was called Treasure Cayand is still in operation (website). I don’t honestly recall a whole lot about it other than that the beach was indeed lovely with the whitest sand I’d ever seen.

Treasure Cay is on Abaco, one of the largest of the Bahama islands, but I don’t think we got off the resort, and I don’t think in any case there was much else to see on Abaco at that point. It was my first and only actual visit to the Bahamas. We knew lots of other Florida people that loved to hop over to the islands for boating, fishing, diving or gambling. Mom and Dad even went a few times on Dad’s boat after they retired, but I never made a trip. The beach and water at Treasure Cay were beautiful but even in May it was pretty hot and desolate, and there wasn’t a whole lot of appeal to coming back.

This was offered as a free trip in return for sitting through a vacation home sales pitch, one of several such trips we took over the years (Hilton Head and Williamsburg were two others that come to mind). There was never much chance we would actually buy a vacation home, particularly in the Bahamas, but it was a nice getaway for a couple of days.
