Slow Travel Article

Just read an interesting article from The Telegraph called “The rise of slow travel: 20 adventures to take at a leisurely pace“.  It gives some nice background on the rise of the “slow movement” in food and lots of other areas, citing the work of Carlo Petrini (founder of Slow Food International) and Carl Honore (author of In Praise of Slow), then relates it to travel.  I honestly didn’t realize there was a whole slow movement beyond food, but it makes sense, perhaps in some ways more than others.

The Telegraph article goes on to feature 20 different adventures that are notable to me not because I’m likely to do many of them, but for the (mostly European) tour groups/sites that organize them.  Of the 20 highlighted tours, the wanderings in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Greece all have some appeal.  I’m pleased for the longer term to make the acquaintance of companies like: Inntravel, Regent HolidaysBelle France, Fleewinter, Intrepid Travel, The Carter Company, Arena Rail Holidays, Pura Aventura, Much Better Adventures, Explore, Headwater, Steppes Travel, World Expeditions, European Waterways, and G Adventures.  I’m sure there are such companies in the US, but I don’t really know where to find them.  And there’s something appealing to traveling in groups with Europeans or others, rather than a bunch of Americans.  Room for investigation.
