Barb’s office had several sports teams in leagues over the years. I’ve collected photos here.
OGC Soccer Team, Fall 1991
The OGC soccer team was a short-lived affair. I can only recall two games, both losses, both played at Woodlawn High School. Lyman Goon was more or less the head coach, and the team leaned heavily on the efforts of the Benson boys, sons of Rob. Larry, Tony, Barb and I made our efforts.
Fall of 1991, Folks in the Office
Spring-Summer 1992, Softball
Barb’s office participated in a softball league that I think primarily played other divisions from the Social Security complex at Woodlawn. Games were played at two fields at Powhatan Elementary School, off Liberty Road near Woodlawn. I played on the team when I could make it, but was not really a regular. Larry was the coach/manager, and many of the usual suspects showed up. It was mostly fun, not a terribly serious game. Barb, however, sustained several injuries including a black eye and later knee troubles that required surgery.
Barb found this summary of the 1995 season when our OGC team won the Championship, not that either of us specifically remember winning it. Unfortunately, I can’t find any pictures of this team. The article mentions that 1995 was the third year OGC participated in the league, so either my tracking of these years is off or I don’t know what happened to the 1993-1994 seasons. Barb was pregnant in the 1995 season so she was General Manager rather than actually playing on the team. I think this may have been our final season playing softball, but at least we went out as winners! It eventually vaulted Barb into the ranks of upper management. Well deserved!
