Barb’s office (and sometimes I) participated in the Social Security Soccer Bowl in September 1993 through 1997, held at Woodlawn High School. These were one-day charity events that included a number of teams from various SSA offices. We were not very good and certainly never practiced, but fortunately it was for a good cause and it was fun when the weather was nice.

1994 Soccer Bowl
This year, in a bid to be more competitive, the team recruited Rod B’s two sons who both went on to become very accomplished lacrosse players at Johns Hopkins. They helped some — we actually scored a goal! — but I don’t think we made it any further in the tournament.
1995 Soccer Bowl
Barb was majorly pregnant for the 1995 Soccer Bowl, so she coached. I played, in a manner of speaking. The team was smaller and more reliant on the Bensons than ever.
