In August, 1981, Barb and I took a weekend jaunt out to wild and wonderful West Virginia, staying for a night at the Canaan Valley Resort (website), a hotel, golf course and ski area in a state park. I don’t remember much about the park; the hotel/facilities were decent and I thought I should go back sometime to play golf, but I don’t think I ever did.
We meandered our way back through Berkeley Springs, a spa town frequented by George Washington, and the unincorporated town of Shanghai, WV, my first visit to any Shanghai.
I’m not sure exactly where the following pictures were taken. I thought it was the railroad bridge across the Potomac at Shepherdstown, WV, but my recent visit there proved it’s a different bridge. Maybe it’s the Potomac up closer to Hanckock, Nevertheless, it provided some of my favorite pictures of Barb.
All in all, I can’t guarantee this was our route. I remember we had a good time and it was the start of a number of getaway weekends to explore different sights all around the Mid-Atlantic.
