Arrived in Madrid on time (7:30am or so), had long walk to customs and baggage, then waited a while more for luggage. It finally appeared and I was out of baggage claim by about 8:45. Started looking for transport to get to train station at Chamartin. Had to catch bus from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 (a long ride), then was pointed downstairs to train lines to find next train to Chamartin. Bought fare to Chamartin then waited a while longer for train to depart. Got to Chamartin at about 9:30. Bought ticket for 10:15 train to Segovia and waited. Segovia train very fast and easy, 30-minute ride, largely through tunnels at up to 250kph (150+mph). Laurie was waiting at Segovia station as planned, and she drove me to her place, getting there around 11:30.
After a quick hello and unpack, Laurie prepared a nice breakfast snack of grated tomato on toast. Then the vote was for us each to take naps for a while before heading to Maggie’s in La Losa around 2pm for a late Spanish lunch. I slept readily and felt good after. Saw Maggie, Juan, Sam and Nico for the afternoon. Maggie prepared a lunch of sausages and veggies which was very tasty. We watched some Chinese language videos for Sam’s benefit, but it was mostly Maggie taking notes. Everyone is well. Nico is 2, Sam is 5, now.
Returned to Segovia and wandered a bit before ending up in the Plaza Mayor for tapas and a drink. What had been a cloudy day turned into a pleasant pink sunset in the Plaza. I got my fill of Judiones beans and some Vichyssoise (should have had gazpacho but Laurie had ordered it). Also hadn’t thought about Judiones being basically a soupy stew. Still, it was warm and very filling. Laurie and I plotted the next few days and got caught up.
